Germany Crush Scotland In Euro 2024 Opener

Germany crush Scotland in Euro 2024 opener

Hosts run riot in Munich as Scots pay the penalty

Germany got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a flying start with a 5-1 demolition of Scotland in Munich on Friday night.

The hosts were in complete control from the off, and took the lead through a Thomas Müller penalty after just 10 minutes. Timo Werner doubled their advantage shortly after, and Leon Goretzka made it 3-0 before the break.

Scotland were given a lifeline early in the second half when John McGinn pulled one back, but any hopes of a comeback were dashed when Andy Robertson was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Germany took full advantage of their numerical advantage, with Müller adding his second of the night before Leroy Sané completed the scoring late on.

The result leaves Scotland bottom of Group F after the opening round of fixtures, while Germany are top on goal difference.
